After training as a bookseller, she studied American Studies, Literature and Psychology in Potsdam and New York and has published novels including ‘Kältere Schichten der Luft’ (2007, shortlisted for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize) and ‘Sturz der Tage in die Nacht’ (2011, longlisted for the German Book Prize). Her novel ‘Blaue Frau’ was awarded the German Book Prize 2021. She translates Joan Didion, Lena Andersson, Lucia Berlin, Monika Fagerholm and Virginia Woolf, among others, from English and Swedish. Her translation of Monika Fagerholm's ‘Who Killed Bambi?’ was shortlisted for the 2023 Leipzig Book Fair Prize. Most recently published: ‘Der Einfluss der Fasane’ (2025).
