Teresa Präauer - Never Cry Again

An Advanced Guide to Tears

Rich in anecdotes and brimming with knowledge about the many changing fashions of shedding tears, Präauer explores our emotional lives, sudden moments of tenderness and the experience of being deeply moved. What makes us cry? What is the chemical composition of our tears? Are tears a sign of weakness—or even a weapon? What comforts us in difficult times? Can crying be suppressed and controlled? And does it help to put a paper bag over one’s head, as Joan Didion suggested? In this book, Teresa Präauer embarks on a quest that is both universal and deeply personal, offering wit, dazzlement and insight. But can the wish never to cry again ultimately be fulfilled?
