Founded in 1956 and based in Salzburg and Vienna, Residenz Verlag is one of Austria’s most renowned publishing houses. It is known for its sophisticated literary programme and its strong commitment to high-quality non-fiction.

In its non-fiction programme, Residenz publishes on topics such as contemporary history, sustainability, art, and biographies, while also raising controversial socio-political questions through its essay series Unruhe bewahren.

In fiction, the publisher continues to support established Austrian authors such as Thomas Bernhard, Peter Henisch, Walter Kappacher, Christine Nöstlinger, Barbara Frischmuth, Clemens Setz, and many others.
Residenz Verlag is also recognised for discovering new voices from the German-speaking world, such as Barbi Marković, who won the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2024 for her book Minihorror.
