Alex Capus - Almost a touch of spring

Roman

1933: two unemployed youths need money to escape from Nazi Germany; they raid a bank, inadvertently shooting dead the branch manager. Fleeing south, they get as far as Basel, where one of them falls in love with a salesgirl in a record shop. Every day he buys a tango record, until the money is used up; it is time for the next bank-raid. This is an authentic story, researched meticulously by Alex Capus, in police and newspaper archives, in conversations with survivors, in long hikes to the actual locations. The result is a novel like a tango: light yet melancholy, fresh and elegant and full of mourning for missed opportunities and vanished happiness. Alex Capus was born in France in 1961, studied history and philosophy in Basel and now lives in Olten. He has published in Residenz Mein Studium ferner Welten (2001), Fast ein bisschen Frühling (2002) und Glaubst du, dass es Liebe ist (2004).

Press
\"Alex Capus has retained something very rare: gentleness, kindness, consideration, tolerance. And when a story is also told so lovingly and accurately, with such a feather-light touch, then we readers are happy.\" Elke Heidenreich, Westdeutscher Rundfunk \"From the very first sentences he shows that he loves the kind of humour of which Joachim Ringelnatz is still the supreme master...\" Verena Auffermann, Süddeutsche Zeitung \"A wonderful narrator, for whom everything has a story and the world is an open book – stories funny, sad, weird and simple. Wherever Capus picks up a trail, he finds something, and reports the results of his investigations with a light and elegant touch.\" Agnes Hüfner, Süddeutsche Zeitung \"Fast ein bisschen Frühling is a crime thriller of minimalist charm. But it is much more – it is a great big little book.\" Wolfgang Schneider, Literaturen \"Fast ein bisschen Frühling is an incredible story, but researched in every detail. The Swiss author Alex Capus tells it with such affection and nostalgia that it almost breaks one\'s heart.\" Brigitte
